Canadian Thanksgiving, I find, is a little bit different than Thanksgiving in the US.  How is it different?  Well, other than it being celebrated on different dates, I just find that the attitude towards the holiday is a bit different.

In the US, there seems to be this mad rush to travel home to celebrate the holiday with family and friends.  Here, it doesn’t seem as harried.  Maybe it’s because most people have family within a few hours driving distance.  Or, perhaps, maybe it’s because I am in Quebec, it’s not as big of a holiday as it is in the US.  That’s just my observation and perception.

There are folks here who do the turkey for Thanksgiving thing.  As for myself, as I don’t have family within convenient driving distance, I opt to celebrate the holiday with some good friends.  Since it’s inception about 4 years ago, I have been hosting a Thanksgiving potluck dinner.  Usually, it’s friends who don’t have any major family commitments who come.  It’s a great chance to catch up with friends and to share some good eats.

Oh! And what do I make for Thanksgiving?  Dry-rub baby back ribs, slow cooked in the oven.  Yum!!  I am also making some  pommes dauphinoise.  I’ll try to take some pics of the foodstuff before it all gets decimated/devoured.
